A view of the Satilla River. The Satilla borders and crosses the Gopher Plantation. It provides cover and a safe travel corridor for the mature trophy bucks living on the Gopher Plantation.
Water in a Cypress pond. Several ponds and bays on the Gopher Plantation provide wildlife with water and cover. There are several stands strategically located near these water sources to offer hunters an opportunity at that elusive trophy buck.
A great view through the tall pines. This is an excellent early morning stand. It is common for large bucks to travel within range of this stand on their way from their feeding areas to their bedding area.
You can see a vast area from this stand. Bucks and does will frequently stop nearby this stand to browse while traveling from one area of the plantation to another. You never know what to expect when hunting here, you may not see a single deer or you may have a chance at that buck of a lifetime.
This typical deer stand is equipped with shutters and curtains for added concealment. The Gopher Plantation has an abundance of stands on it's 7,000 acres to provide hunters with fresh areas to hunt that have had limited pressure. Additionally, the portable stands are relocated frequently in order to pattern the changing movement of the deer.
This typical Gopher Plantation food plot is known as the Long Strip. Many trophy bucks have been taken from the two stands located here. It is a favorite gathering place for does and bucks during the rut.
You can see this vast scenic area of prime deer and wild turkey habitat from one of our stands. It is very common to see several deer and turkey crossing paths and feeding together in this area.
A well worn deer trail leading to a food plot known as The Bay. Most repeat customers consider The Bay as the best hunting spot on the plantation. The Bay is located adjacent to the Sanctuary, where no hunting is ever allowed. When you hunt the Gopher Plantation you should request the opportunity to hunt this hot spot.
This food plot, known as the Big Field, is interspersed with several deer-attractant food sources, grown year-round. There are deer stands at either end of the food plot, both of which are excellent evening stands. It is common to see more than 40 deer and more than 25 turkeys feeding together in this food plot. There have been several trophy bucks taken here. There have also been several "wall-hangers" seen out of effective rifle range. They seem to know just how far away is safe. |
